TMHS 118: Scary Dairy – The Pros And Cons Of Consuming Dairy Products

For a lot of us, nothing says love like some delicious milk and cookies.

Or maybe it’s ice cream that you just can’t do without? Or hard cheeses? Or yogurt? Or maybe you get really sexy and dip your food into fondue?

Whatever it may be that pulls on those heart strings for you, one thing is for certain: Dairy has a huge emotional connection with people in our world today.

This, my health seeking friend, is at the very center of the situation…

When it comes to dairy, a lot of people may be aware of the ill effects, but if you try to take it away they’ll cling on to that Ben & Jerry’s container like it’s the bonafide love of their life.

They’ll say, “I’ll follow your fancy nutrition advice Mr. Health Guy, but I’m not giving up my dairy!”

First of all, I’m not the guy that’s interested in taking things away from people. But if it’s causing you health problems like diabetes, high body fat, and allergies (you’re about to learn about all of that stuff in a minute) then maybe you might want to leave it alone for a while.

As I step back so that I don’t get stabbed with an ice cream scooper… I’m here to share why, in fact, dairy is so addictive and at the same time so harmful for most people.

Today we’re going to breakdown some long-believed myths about dairy in a way that’s going to blow your mind (and possibly stop you from blowing up bathrooms if you are lactose intolerant).

In all seriousness, what you’re about to learn today will be life-changing for you and the people you care about. It’s not that dairy is inherently “bad”, it’s just the way that it’s being produced and consumed today that can cause good people a lot of problems.

    Hi Shawn,

    Another great podcast, thanks! Are you suggesting cutting out all dairy to really notice a difference? I switched to sheep and goat’s milk products as I heard they are better for our bodies but I haven’t felt any different.

      Hey Alice, thanks so much for the love! Well, it depends on what results you’re going for. If you’re dealing with some nagging issues (acne, low energy, autoimmune/allergy stuff) then definitely pulling out the dairy full tilt for a few weeks would be a good idea to see how you feel, then reintroduce and tweak from there. If you’re already feeling great then simply keep doing what you’re doing. 😉

    Love, love LOVE this show!

    I just listened to this episode and you mentioned a recipe for dairy free cashew butter ice cream using an ice cream maker.

    I wanted to share an even easier and lighter “ice cream” that your family and viewers may love.

    For dairy free, I’ll take a frozen banana (sliced and frozen when it’s very ripe for enhanced sweetness), a few splashes of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, a little stevia (optional) and blend in the food processor until it has an ice cream consistency.

    Some additions that make this very tasty are:
    Pumpkin Puree
    Peanut Butter
    Chocolate Chips
    Graham Cracker Crust
    Cocoa Powder

    My absolute favorite additions are 1 tsp cocoa powder, ¼ tsp ground cinnamon, and 2 tsp peanut butter per banana for a banana “ice cream” that tastes like reese’s cup ice cream!

    For a dairy option, I’ll blend 1 cup frozen fruit (peaches or berries) with 1 tablespoon honey, stevia (optional), 1/4 cup plain yogurt, and a tsp lemon juice in a food processor. This is a delicious, quick and healthy frozen yogurt.

    Hi Shawn, thanks for this episode, really good information. I’m almost dairy free except for cheese but after listening to this I’ll try to cut that out of my diet as well. Another goal would be to switch my son to almond milk, slowly 🙂
