TMHS 025: How To Stop Sugar Cravings (Without Getting A Sweet Tooth Root Canal)

In this episode we dive into the wide, wide world of sugar addiction, craving unhealthy foods, and gold-plated sweet tooth smiles. Do you have “issues” with craving sweets or other unhealthy foods? Do you find yourself eating foods that you KNOW are bad for you and end up feeling guilty afterward? Well, if this is you, then this is the most important show you’ll ever hear!

Look, I’m not trying to teach you how to control sugar cravings, I’m teaching you how to stop sugar cravings dead in their tracks. Sweets, sugar, and carbs in general, are the main driver of your body’s fat-storing hormone insulin. If you don’t have your sugar cravings in order, then you’re going to have a one-way ticket to unwanted fat deposited in places that you really won’t like.

You CAN beat this. And you don’t have to do a fancy sugar detox either. You just need to have the right tools and strategy at your disposal to take back control of your mind, body, and health for good. Now let’s get to it!

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • Why using your “will power” will never work to stop craving sugar.
  • The hormone that shuts down your appetite and helps you to stop food cravings.
  • Where the “satiety hormone” get produced in your body (this will surprise you).
  • The gland in your brain that regulates your calorie intake.
  • What your different types of fat tissue are (the good and the not-so-good).
  • How sugar addiction can disrupt your body’s hunger and satiety hormones.
  • What type of foods hyper-stimulate your appetite (making it impossible to stop sugar cravings).
  • What the “hunger hormone” actually is.
  • The proven impact that sleep has on food cravings.
  • Why emotional stress influences our “sweet tooth”.
  • The affect that exercise has on insulin and leptin sensitivity.
  • The #1 reason for chronic overeating (this is CRITICAL!)
  • How breakfast can set you up for a day of overeating.
  • How to stop sugar cravings by eating a special category of foods.
  • Why carbohydrates of any kind can cause problems for some people (my date story).
  • What is candida and the shocking impact that candida has on sugar cravings.
  • How the bacteria in your body determine your food cravings.
  • How to naturally eliminate candida (3 important steps).
  • The 4 keys to improving leptin sensitivity and break the addiction to sugar.
  • How to fight sugar cravings with a special type of exercise.
  • The #1 type of food to eat to stop sugar cravings.
  • Why you should never say you have a “sweet tooth” again.
  • What some smart alternatives are to “treat yourself” with.
  • How knowing your metabolic type can help determine the best foods for you.

I really appreciate your topics and love to learn about it and ‘play’ with it.
However I am not auditive but visually minded. Therefore the absorption of new knowledge goes by my eyes and not ears.
it would be great if that was/is read also.

    With respect

Willy Wonka has NOTHING on you when it comes knowing about the sweet stuff. In this podcast I was effectively given the science -your “why” card and the tactics-your “how to” card- to combat these cravings -gimmick free.
Smart, real, and practical information that works in the real world for real people.

As I listened to the Podcast I was able to see the connection to my lack of sleep and my cravings. I went back and listen to the podcast on sleep to address the issue. However I will always be a cookie monster girl.

Claudine, as a woman thinketh in her heart, so is she. In other words, if you say it, then it is true! Cookie monster is kind of cute and funny though 😉

I am the Cookie & Cake Monster. I literally have doughnut on my breath right now. The one good thing about my diet is that I detest traditional breakfast foods. I’d usually eat leftovers from dinner the night before, for breakfast. I’d much rather have some string beans and a piece of chicken breast in the morning. Besides, starchy foods first thing in the morning make me feel bad; I have to start my day with protein. Anyway, thanks for the tips. Nice podcast. You and Jade are funny!

Hi Shawn, again great information, making a fantastic reference library for us. I’m pleased to say I started with this way of eating about 5 1/2 months ago, with the more healthy fat and all, as apposed to a low fat diet for many years which had a real bad impact on my health. Dangerously low cholesterol and a heart attack, for what I know now it was inevitable. Thank goodness for you helping people, with your knowledge and experience, my wish is for everyone to listen to you and change there lives for the better.
By the way change of tact here, I used to watch the show Dallas in the 80’s loved it, when I had my Son who now is 30 I also called him Jorden, with an “e” great name right!
Anyway just to say I have just about got rid of the sugar monster from my life, and can even turn down the sweet desert offered whenever I’m out for dinner ect, but I do love dark chocolate, and always look for organic where possible and 85% to 90% I’m still searching for 100%
    Again enjoyed the podcast,
Love to you and your family

Hi Shawn, I just want to say that although we have worked together in the past and I’ve heard some of this information before, I really got a lot out of this video and have an overall better understanding. I know the difference between mineral rich foods and healthy fats so know I have the tools to get rid of the sugar cravings. So anyway, just want to say thank you for the knowledge!
